The John While Extension Springs range forms a complementary extension to the established ASI extension spring catalogue. Developed to expand on the original Automatic Spring standard range, this series was designed to provide increased free length relative to outside diameter, offering additional flexibility in applications where greater travel or lower initial spring rates are required.
Like the ASI range, the John While extension spring catalogue has its origins in mid-20th century Australian spring manufacturing, developed by John While & Son to meet the evolving requirements of engineers and designers. By proportionally increasing free length while maintaining practical diameter ranges, this catalogue enabled improved performance in assemblies with limited diameter constraints but greater deflection needs.
This range has been widely referenced in engineering drawings and production assemblies, both in Australia and internationally, and has remained largely unchanged over time, reflecting the robustness and continued relevance of the original designs.
Today, we continue to manufacture and supply the John While Extension Springs range in Australia, preserving the integrity of the original catalogue while ensuring consistent availability for modern engineering, maintenance, and production use. Stock springs are available in hard-drawn carbon steel and stainless steel, with additional materials offered for custom-manufactured requirements.
