Double Torsion Springs ▼
Double torsion springs consist of two torsion spring coils connected at the centre to form a single spring. The coils are wound from one continuous piece of spring wire, with one coil wound clockwise and the other counter-clockwise. These two sections work in parallel, allowing the spring to deliver higher torque and improved stability compared with a single torsion spring.
Like standard torsion springs, the legs of the spring are typically pressed against an external component, creating resistance as the spring attempts to return to its original position. A shaft or rod usually runs through the centre of the two coils, providing alignment and support within the application.
Because the two coils operate together, double torsion springs can generate significantly greater force. The torque produced is effectively the combined output of the two individual spring bodies, making them suitable for applications requiring higher load capacity or balanced force distribution.
The bridge connecting the two coils and the spring legs can be manufactured in a variety of lengths and shapes depending on the application requirements. Our stock double torsion springs feature a bridge with a double 90-degree bend and are manufactured from 301 stainless steel, providing good corrosion resistance and reliable performance.
Applications
Double torsion springs are commonly used in assemblies where higher torque and balanced rotational force are required, including:
- Hinges and counterbalance mechanisms
- Industrial equipment and machinery
- Clamps and spring-loaded levers
- Automotive components
- Mechanical assemblies requiring balanced torque
Custom Double Torsion Springs
If the standard range does not meet your specific requirements, we can manufacture double torsion springs to custom specifications. Options include different wire sizes, coil diameters, leg configurations, bridge lengths, materials, and torque requirements.
